As instructional designers, our expertise is in pedagogy. Our goal is to help you enhance your instructional strategies in order to create an exceptional, engaging, student-centered learning environment (residence, hybrid, and online).
Some of the topics with which we can help faculty include:
- Course design or redesign
We are very experienced in the design and development of resident, hybrid, and online course instruction. Whether you are starting from scratch or looking to redesign your current class experience, we’d welcome a chance to discuss your learning objectives as well as the instructional and assessment strategies that meet your needs. We can assist you with redesigning a course whether it is face-to-face instruction, hybrid, or completely online delivery.
- Syllabus development
Whether you are new to teaching a course or a veteran instructor, we can guide you toward creating a thorough, complete syllabus that manages student expectations and establishes classroom continuity. For help creating your course syllabus, please reference this helpful Syllabus Checklist.
- Educational technology integration
We can suggest technology tools that help you meet course and learning objectives and engage your students. We directly support all University-adopted technologies including Adobe Connect, ANGEL, Doceri, iClickers, VoiceThread, and Yammer. The list is continually growing so, if in doubt, just ask us!
- Student engagement
In keeping with your teaching style, we can help to craft ideas that promote active learning both inside and outside the classroom, encouraging student class preparation, participation, and reflection.
- Learning Outcomes and Assessment
We can help you align your program, course, and lesson objectives while creating a variety of assessment strategies that allow to observe and measure student learning.
- Collaborative learning
In considering student engagement, we can discuss methods of building peer-to-peer interaction, including group work, peer evaluations, and discussion strategies.
- ANGEL integration
We can guide you toward effectively integrating ANGEL tools into your instructional strategies. Our focus is on best teaching practices using learning management systems, such as ANGEL, and we collaborate with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to provide ANGEL support.
- Classroom management
Various methods of classroom management can encourage active student learning. We can help you pick one that fits your teaching style.
- Multimedia creation
We can discuss your multimedia assignments and connect you and your students with a consultant for training, support, and resources.
We can help guide the process of making documents and other student resources.
We will also facilitate monthly workshops around topics of interest to a broad faculty audience. These workshops may be in collaboration with Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT), Media Commons, or the Office of Information Technology at Penn State Altoona (OIT).
