February 12 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Please join us in a day of celebrating reading, literacy, and African American literature of all genres by listening to or sharing excerpts from this wide-ranging canon on Monday, February 12, in the Titelman Study, Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Drop by any time to listen, participate, or both. Special performances and features will take place throughout the day. Refreshments will be served.
Readings may, but are not required to, respond to this year’s theme: African Diaspora Writers in the U.S.
Individual participants are welcome as always, as are group presentations, performances, and interpretive presentations (dance, song, musical accompaniment, etc.) Readings and performances will take place throughout the day. To reserve your 5-minute slot or request a longer time slot to read or perform on Monday, click here! For questions, contact Robin Reese at RLR28@psu.edu or 814-949-5350. All participants will receive a commemorative T shirt printed with this year’s logo.
Faculty, please think about getting your classes involved in this open mic/marathon. If you have a class on Monday, we can provide a group slot for you and your students to read– either from the same text or from separate pieces.
As always, we will have books on hand for participants to choose from that day—come early to do so! For a list of recommended texts, visit the NCTE’s African American Read-In website at www.ncte.org/aari/toolkit. Or, for texts and authors more directly related to this year’s theme, refer to our list of suggested texts and authors.
