A New Family Member

If you read my last blog, you would know that my family lost a member last week. The family dog, Angus, got hit by a car and died. It was especially hard on me and my mother because he was our chore buddy. I went home for the weekend and the one thing that was really different was that my buddy wasn’t there to greet me or to eat the food that I accidentally dropped on the floor. My mom kept saying, “I hate going to the barn by myself, I need a new dog.”

Searching for Puppies

My mom had been looking online for blue heeler puppies as soon as my dog died. Before, we had gotten both of our blue heelers from my uncle because he bred them, but he is no longer breeding dogs. My mom had found some for sale in Jamestown, NY which is a couple of hours south of where we live. They were adorable in the picture online but it didn’t say very much about the puppies. My mom couldn’t decide what she wanted to do. My dad had told her that we needed to wait 2 years before getting another dog. I still don’t think he has gotten over the death of my other dog, Boog. He got hit by a car a couple of years ago just before Valentines Day. He was my dads best friend and it was really hard for him to let him go. So it was understandable that he wanted to wait a while. My best friend and her family breed border collies and they had just had a litter at the end of September. I have always wanted a border collie so I asked for pictures and sent them on to my mom. She immediately turned down the idea because she wants a blue heeler and nothing else. I kind of gave up on the puppy thing because I didn’t think I could ever find something to make my mom happy.

A Facebook Post

I was skimming through Facebook, like I do everyday, and came across the cutest puppy. My cousin Taylor used to live in NY and trained dogs. She now lives in NC and posted a picture of an adorable blue/red heeler puppy. It was from an amish farm back home and had been placed in a shelter. They were looking for someone to adopt it. I immediately took a screenshot of the post and sent it to my mom. She fell in love and decided to go visit the puppy yesterday. Needless to say, we will have a new member of the family joining us on Sunday. I am super bummed that I won’t be home again until Thanksgiving break because I really want to meet the new puppy. It’s a little girl and she doesn’t have a name yet. Does anyone have a good name for the new puppy?

OH MY GOODNESS THAT PUPPY IS SO CUTE. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your dog, losing pets is very emotional. I can’t imagine the passing of my beloved cat. I actually have a tattoo for her because I love her so much, haha. But I’m really glad you found such a cute puppy to be the member of your family!

I know how you feel about the passing of you dog. It’s like losing your best friend. I won’t go into detail, but I had a cat who passed from an illness. But life goes on, and at least you found a new dog to add to the family. And she is adorable to boot.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m an animal lover myself, and growing up, I always had a pet. I’ve also witnessed some of them die, which is truly heartbreaking, so I know how you feel. On the bright side, the new puppy looks adorable, and I’m sure she’ll become your best friend soon enough!
