Week 4
This week, you will continue to learn the degrees you will advise by “shadowing” members of your pillar team. They will be happy to share everything they do in “a day in the life of a World Campus adviser.”
Now that you have completed the lesson on working with students in wdadvising, you will begin shadowing advisers who are responding to emails in this account. Next week you will practice responding to email messages and have advisers review your responses.
It is also time to start reviewing more advanced advising practices. This week you will view videos and articles that represent our philosophy of student-centered advising to get you started.
You will meet with our Disabilities Liaison, our Military Education/Portal Management Specialist, and our Academic Support Resources Specialist. These staff members are extremely important to our students’ success and we work very closely with them on a daily basis.
You will complete the following online units:
Student-Centered Advising, Exceptions to Academic Policies and Procedures.

Please discuss the following questions with your mentor at the end of week 4:
WdAdvising Email Account: You have now been shadowing advisers who are responding to emails from WdAdvising for one week. Is advising in this format what you expected? What are the biggest challenges you have encountered?
Reinforcement of the Learning: You have been asked to review all of the information from the past few weeks. Which area(s) do you feel most confident about when speaking with students? In which area(s) would you like clarification or to review? Are there any areas in which you are concerned with explaining to students?
Organization: As you have realized, advisers need to know where to access a large amount of information. What strategies have you employed to help keep you organized? What area or set of information are you still working on organizing?
Meetings: This week you met with the Academic Support, Disabilities, and Military Education. What did you learn about the work that they do, and how will it support your work with students?
