Week 6

In week 6, you will be shadowing advisers who are on phone duty.  You will also respond to inquiries in the wdadvising email account.

You should also ask your pillar team members if you can listen in on a new student telephone appointment. The adviser will obtain the student’s permission for this.

You will meet with our Career Counselor and a Financial Aid staff member this week to learn about the important work that they do.

Next week you will be assigned a few students on your advising roster.  Please read the online lesson “Beginning Your Work with an Assigned Roster.”

Week 6

Student-Centered Advising: What were some of the key points of your advising philosophy when you began this position?  Has working with students in this format caused your philosophy to evolve?   Has working with adult learners changed your views?

WdAdvising Email Account: You have now been working in WdAdvising for one week. What was your most challenging situation that you encountered?  Hindsight is always 20/20: If you were to encounter a similar situation in the future, would you change how you approached and handled it?

Phone Duty: Now that you have observed phone duty, what are the differences you see between responding to wdadvising email and answering student phone calls?  Do you have any concerns about beginning your first phone shift?

Meetings: This week you met with Financial Aid and Career Services. What did you learn about the work that they do, and how will it support your work with students?
