AMON would like to congratulate Prof. Chad Hanna, and his team for their contribution to the observation of gravitational waves from colliding black holes, with LIGO!
Chad, currently assistant professor of physics at Penn State, is the co-chair of the compact binary coalescence working group in LIGO. In addition Chad, and graduate student Cody Messick, are members of the AMON team. Here, they have focused their efforts on developing the capability for external observers to be alerted as soon as a gravitational wave is detected, using the AMON cyber-infrastructure, in order to enable the potential discovery of electromagnetic counterparts.
More information about the LIGO team at Penn State can be found at ligo.psu.edu.
