This week I read an article in the New York Times titled “How a Chinese Billionaire Build her fortune” written by David Barboza. This article is centered around how a lady named Zhou Qunfei who is the wealthiest self made woman billionaire. She is the founder of a company called Lens Technology. This is an important article for students our age to read because it describes how hard work can really pay off, and that you don’t need to come from a wealthy family to make money. I believe it is especially important for women to read this article because Miss Zhou is one of the only female self made billionaires in the world. This article uses a series of different headings to break up the document into different parts. These sections are “Leaning Toward the Obsessive”, “Propelled to Dominance”, and “Expanding a Customer Base”. Using these different headers was a great rhetorical strategy for the author to break things up and to keep the article clear and easy to follow. Another rhetorical strategy that the author used is logos. Logical appeals were used throughout to provide evidence on the subject at hand. An example of logos is “Last year, the company notched revenue of about $2.4 billion. Profit rose 40 percent in the first quarter. But Lens gets nearly 75 percent of its revenue from Apple and Samsung, making the company reliant on just two customers” This is a good use of logos because it gives the reader actual data and statistical reasoning to back up what the author is trying to say. I highly recommend reading this article to learn about how success in the business field is very possible but requires a lot of work. If you want to become successful and make a fortune for yourself then you should read this for inspiration and motivation.

Very interesting article. It is such an amazing accomplishment of how people come from almost nothing and work hard to achieve great success, especially becoming a billionaire. Great job of describing the rhetorical appeals used as well
