Ongoing Yoga Research: Daily OM (Off the Mat) Study
IMPORTANT: As of August 31st, we have stopped recruiting new participants into the research! We are in the process of wrapping up data collection. Thank you for your interest and care in the research!
What does the study involve?
- Completion of 2 online research assessments (20-30 minutes) at the beginning of the study, and one after the 3-week period.
- Local participants (State College area): will be asked to complete these assessments through 2 lab visits to the APL at 26 Recreation Bld.
- Non-local participants (External): will be asked to complete these assessments in a quiet environment at one’s own time. We will be in touch with you in regards to the details of when these assessments should be completed.
- 21-day assessment period that will be completed in the natural setting: in the context of your everyday life!
How long will you take part in this research study?
- This study will last approximately three weeks. The total approximate time for your participation will be approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Do I get anything for participating?
- By completing 80% of the daily surveys, your name will be entered into a lottery drawing to win 3 of $50.00 gift certificates. For every additional 5% completion rate, your name can be entered multiple times (As of July 2016).
- Note: The winners of the lottery drawing will be announced by the end of September 2016. Thank you for your patience!!
What is the scientific purpose of this study?
- To better understand the mind-body practice of yoga and the mechanisms of how this practice may work to enhance one’s health and well-being.
- To examine how practicing yoga impacts an individual’s day-to-day life (i.e., “off of the yoga mat”).
Do I qualify?
In order to qualify for this study, you must be:
- At least 18 years old
- Have a regular yoga (asana) practice at least once a week at a community yoga studio or at home
- Have daily Internet access
- NOT currently participating in other research studies
