Teaching Philosophy

For me, teaching is not a one-way process where the teacher just feeds bits of information to a student. Rather, I see teaching as a two-way streak, in which teacher and student both learn from each other. I am also a strong believer in allowing creativity within students. I believe that students should not simply memorize and regurgitate the information that is being presented to them, rather, they should feel free to make original interpretations with academic merit of course.

I feel one of the most important aspects of teaching is to establish a healthy environment in the classroom. Students should feel free and comfortable to participate and share their ideas, without feeling they are being judged. From my experience as a student, I have felt more inclined to participate in classrooms where the teacher has established a healthy environment. This is particularly important for students who are learning a new language, as I feel it is imperative to ask participate, and ask questions, to truly gain confidence in the subject being learned.

Through incorporation of technology, I hope to offer students a new approach to learning, straying away from the traditional book and paper method. I feel this gives students the opportunity to be creative with what they are learning, and it also gives them an opportunity to personalize their learning methods with what truly resonates with them. For example, a student might be very interested in exploring the cultural aspects of learning a language, and through the use of technology, they have more access to accessing information in art or even music.
