About Me

Ally Schonfeld

My name is Ally Schonfeld, and I am currently pursuing a dual title Masters of Science degree in Agricultural and Extension Education and International Agriculture and Development at Penn State. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and Anthropology and I have only begun to study Agriculture in the last four years. I became enamored with growing food when I traveled to Peru in 2008 with another Land Grant school, and the passion of the students encouraged me to explore the world of Agriculture in Maryland and now in my home state, Pennsylvania.

Since I found my love for communities and food cultures, I have expanded my interests to International Agriculture and Development, as well as issues of Food Security, Food Access, and the overlapping of these themes in Urban Agriculture and Policy. I strive to teach my future students about exploration and following a passion to find what they love to do, as I have.

Penn State has provided me with a world of opportunities through connections with a wonderful network of faculty, students and staff. Last summer I worked with an Extension program in Philadelphia, assessing the effectiveness of current programs and looking into how programs can address issues specific to urban growers.
