Penn State Behrend’s Fraternity and Sorority Life have many programs throughout the year. The following programs are major annual events.
Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards
At the end of the year we hold an award ceremony to honor the hard work done by all fraternity and sorority members. Members are nominated by each other and selected by a panel of judges from Behrend and from other campuses. A list of some of the awards are available here: Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards.
Greek Week
Greek Week is a week long event held for all fraternities and sororities on campus. Each day there are events where the groups get to compete against each other, fraternities vs. fraternities and sororities vs. sororities. The week also has a service event and points are gathered through each event and throughout the year. The closing of Greek Week is a lip singing competition where each group creates a 10 minute performance with the songs and choreography of their choosing. This event gathers a large attendance every year and is the highlight for many members.
New Member Academy
New Member Academy is the 4-6 week training session given to students who are in the process of becoming initiated members of their organizations. During these 4-6 weeks, students learn about campus life, alcohol awareness, leadership skills, and life skills.
Philanthropy
The official philanthropy of the Penn State Behrend Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils is Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON). THON is a Penn State tradition and the largest student run philanthropy in the world. THON raises awareness and funds for children with pediatric cancer and has raised over $137 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital since 1977.
