RCL- Tattoo Acceptance in the Workplace!!

https://www.facebook.com/ThINKequality

The above link is what gave me the idea for this controversial topic in the first place. They have tons of helpful pictures that I think would be perfect for our video.  Also, showing that there is an entire Facebook page (that is VERY popular none the less), will support the fact that it is a widely speak controversial topic being advocated all over the place. The gallery also includes vintage pictures of lots of old folks tatted up to the extreme; there’s your history right there. (or at least a portion of it). There are also photos of mummified corpses shown to have had tattoos, dated back to ALongFreakin’TimeAgo B.C.

I think this Facebook page will help us a lot with picture material for our video!

We’re All Ametures At Life.

“Life is a foreign language; all men mispronounce it.” -Christopher Morley

What does this quote make you think about?

Well, for me, it says that we are all inadequate at life. And…I agree.Living life for us is like learning a language from our infancy on, we get plenty of lessons on how to do so, and by a certain age we are convinced that we are fluent. When in reality we flaunt our occupation of living life like we’re pro’s, but many people never really feel like they have lived by the time they die.  Of course there are many exceptions, many people feel happy with their lives, but I feel like the majority spends their life striving for the perfect dialect & never really master this “foreign language”. I expect that people will have opposing opinions and argue otherwise, but for my part I give lots of credit to this quote.  It allows for recognition of the flaws of man & the way we live. It’s getting recorded in my imaginary book of “Realest Quotes”. 🙂

RCL blog Week Nov. 16

What did you learn? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Can you offer any delivery advice to the future you?

I learned that even thought this speech was a “no notes” speech, the power points helped a lot in keeping me on track with what I wanted to say next. Even though each power point slide was one single picture without words, I learned to relate the track  of my talk to the pictures, and therefore they served as a sort of “no notes” note guide for me.  My strengths I believe involve my ability to relate specific pieces of information to one another and fit them together to form a flowing talk.  However, my weakness obviously involves my nervousness in giving the speech.  It slightly impaired my vocabulary and articulation in explaining my topic and caused me to second guess what I was going to say next. Some advice to the future me would be simply to practice public speaking as much as possible, this way my nervousness may lessen and will cease to be a hindering factor in future presentations.

Tattoos & Piercings in the Workplace

On wednesday our group met up & decided on the best topic ever! 🙂 We had a lot of digression and side-tracked convo, but that’s exactly how we came up with our topic. In talking about completely irrelevant yet interesting things, our controversial topic was born.

It started with talking about tattoos and then morphed into a conversation about college and getting jobs and the difficulties we face in both as a body art oriented generation.

We decided on the topic of body modification in the workplace. Everyone always talks about how piercings and tattoos will get you NOWHERE in the workplace, and how it gives off an unprofessional aura and yadda yadda blase blase blah.

Our next step includes research and the historical tracking of this particular issue. I can’t wait to get to it!

RCL: My Favorite Blogger IS…*dun dun dun*

VAL !

And not just because she’s super nice or because she’s my partner for our project.  I honestly enjoy reading each and every one of her blogs because her writing style is somewhat personal and funny while still being academically appropriate.  She makes anything she writes interesting to read. It also helps that, when she has a choice, she chooses something intriguing or funny or interesting to blog about. The key to getting readers reading is to write about stuff readers want to read! Nice Job Val, if you ever see this 🙂

Quote #7: It’s Song Lyrics, Bare With Me.

“It’s just an American wedding
They don’t mean too much
They don’t last enough
We had an American wedding
Now what’s mine is yours
American divorce

Well, you can have my Mustang
That’s all I’ve got in my name
But Jesus Christ, don’t break my heart
This wedding ring won’t ever wipe off
But if you stay
Oh, if you stay…
You’ll probably leave later anyway
This love made in the U.S.A.”

-Frank Ocean “American Wedding”

Now, this is quite a powerful song to me, considering the majority of it was talking about American weddings being something spontaneous and good and done out of pure love. Then here comes this “american divorce” line and everything gets all real and depressing. I’ve always loved this song, despite it’s depressing nature. It really goes to show what we’ve done to alter to sacred origin and intent of marriage into something whimsical and fleeting. They say that half of all marriages end in divorce in the USA these days, if that isn’t a sad thought I don’t know what is. It makes us wonder, is marriage even worth it anymore? Is love just a passing thing?

WIP blog #8

What are the most intriguing parts of your paradigm shift paper? How will you organize your talk?  (You can include an outline if you prefer.) How will you prepare to perform?

My paper has to do with how technology effects our social skills, particularly with out love lives. In my TED talk I will extend past focus primarily on romance and speak more broadly on what technology has done to our social skills.

I will talk about how and why our communication has transformed.

I will mention the main technologies responsible for this and explain.

And I will talk about future outcomes of the paradigm shift and why we should try to reverse it.

That is all, Good Day to you Sir/Madame 🙂

Quote #6: Don’t be judgin’ other people’s faith.

“One may eat a cake with icing either straight or sidewise. It will taste sweet either way. As one can ascend to the top of a house by means of a ladder or a bamboo or a staircase or a rope, so diverse are the ways and means to approach God, and every religion in the world shows one of these ways”

-Ramakrishna

I will argue that whatever higher power there may be (people have just given it different names and qualities. Let’s use God or “he” as universal for now), he has made different religions to suit different aspirations, times, countries, customs, & belief tendencies.  I’ve learned a great deal in my religious studies class and one of those things i’ve learned is that EVERY religion is defined by the TIME and PLACE in which is arose. Yes, there are many religions seemingly so completely different from one another, and yes humans twist and turn and edit their religion based on what they think or want to do. But I believe that the core of each religion is based on the same basic principle:  to be consolation to us. There are many ways in which this may manifest, but it’s all the same in my eyes.  How you reach God is not important, it’s why you choose to do so.  I don’t think people should persecute ANY religion. Each one at it’s core has purely good intentions, no matter how they show it. You wouldn’t judge a person because they like chocolate cake and you prefer vanilla, why do the same with religion?
