Daniel Hassell creating augmented reality

Daniel Hassell is a senior graduating with a degree in Art with a concentration in New Media.  He is currently involved with numerous amount of freelance projects and spends most of his time working with digital media in the form of advertising, art direction, and user experience design. Last spring, he received a Bertha Lear Award for Excellence in Leadership & Engagement.

Daniel is passionate about ecosystems and how they’re maintained, kept and preserved and how different pollutants affect these ecosystems. As an avid fisherman, it is important to him to maintain ecosystems to preserve the home of aquatic wildlife as well as promote fishing for sport. For David Buckley Borden’s project, he chose to research and learn more about how temperatures in the ocean affect wildlife both in salt and freshwater.

In conjunction with David’s project, he is creating an Augmented Reality (AR) model of the finished structure itself, allowing users to view the installation right in their very own home. Coming from a digital background, Daniel aimed to use a digital platform to complement David’s physical installation, as the installation will be de-installed from Penn State’s campus in the future. Using Augmented Reality, users will be able to view the model long after it is gone from their smartphones.
