Guodong Liu

Guodong_LiuGuodong Liu, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Public Health Sciences in the Health Services and Behavioral Research Division, with a joint appointment as Associate Professor of Psychiatry in Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. Dr. Liu has been with the Center for Applied Studies in Health Economics (CASHE) since 2013 and became the Director in December, 2022.

Dr. Liu is a computer scientist and bioinformatician with extensive research expertise in data mining and knowledge discovery using large electronic medical records (EMRs) and large administrative claims databases. Before joining the Penn State faculty in 2013, Dr. Liu was a postdoctoral scholar at both the University of Pittsburgh and Penn State University. Dr. Liu was also a biomedical informatics trainee at the National Library of Medicine (NLM). His areas of research include data modeling & knowledge discovery, prototyping & simulation, epidemiology, bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, statistical computing, health services research, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

Dr. Liu received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China; his M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; and his M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
