High-Speed Stereo Particle Image Velocimetry
The PIV system consists of a Continuum Mesa Nd:YAG laser at 532 nm. Each pulse is 10 mJ at 6 kHz, with a pulse width of 190 ns. Repetition rate of the laser can reach 40 kHz per head. The cameras are Photron SA5s, both capable of the repetition rates of the laser, and full resolution at a rate of 7,000 frames per second. The system control and PIV calculation is done with the LaVision software package DaVis 8.
High-speed chemiluminscence imaging uses a Photron SA1.1 high-speed camera, which is capable of speeds of 5,400 frames per second at full resolution, in conjunction with a LaVision high-speed intensifier.
High-Speed Laser-Induced Fluorescence
The high-speed PLIF system for both tracer-PLIF and OH-PLIF consists of a 10 kHz Edgewave Innoslab laser that pumps a Credo amplified dye laser, resulting in approximately 0.5 J/pulse of power in the UV at 10 kHz. The signal is imaged with a Photron SA1.1 high-speed camera and a LaVision high-speed intensifier. Sheet and image corrections will be done using the LaVision software package DaVis 8.
Malvern SprayTec Spray Analyzer
A Malvern spray analyzer with high-repetition rate capability can be used to measure particle size distributions. The instrument allows for particle size distributions to be measured at data rates up to 10 kHz; a range of particle sizes between 0.5 and 1600 micrometers can be measured with the instrument.
