Modern times have made people all over the world rely heavily on the internet. Up until now the internet has been a free space that no government or private company has been able to control. Besides of course some countries under a stricter rule like China and Korea who already have larger censorship rules. In America though we haven’t had to deal with these problems until now. Depending on how much money a consumer has could have determined how fast there internet speeds were. It`s like when you go to an amusement park and you buy express tickets to get through the lines faster. That is what internet providers were trying to accomplish.
Federal Communications Commission decided however that the internet is a free space and providers have to treat all consumers equally. Time Warner Cable and Comcast, two of the largest internet providers almost joined together in August. This deal would have created a giant provider that would have almost had a monopoly on the internet in America. The FCC made sure that merger didn’t happen and internet speeds will be safe for now. Some people remember a few months ago when congress tried putting regulations on the internet. It is hard to unite a people towards a common goal especially with such a diverse audience like America. The best way to get people in America to work together and convince them to support an argument, is to tell them their internet is at risk. This is probably one of the best rhetoric strategies. Just telling people something they use in everyday life or appreciate is at risk. In the future the American people might have to deal with these companies, but for now the FCC has made sure the internet is still unregulated.
