Webinar: American Heart Association Research Grants

The American Heart Association and the Penn State College of Medicine will present a Research Grants Webinar on Tuesday, January 29, from 12:00 – 1:30 PM EST.

Kiran Musunuru, MD, PhD, MPH, FAHA, associate professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Genetics, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania; Glenn Dillon, PhD, Director of Research Operations, American Heart Association; and Elizabeth Cooper, AS, BS, MAOM, Manager of Research Administration, Office of Science Operations, American Heart Association, will discuss American Heart Association grant opportunities and grantsmanship tips.

Call for Applications: 2019 Advanced Studies Institute

The 2019 Advanced Studies Institute (ASI) will be held April 15 – May 3, 2019. ASI is a professional development opportunity for advanced Ph.D. students and postdocs interested in learning skills needed for research program development at national laboratories and academia.

The Los Alamos National Laboratory Engineering Institute invites a multi-disciplinary (e.g. computer science, engineering, biology, physics, earth sciences, mathematics/statistics) group of advanced, highly accomplished Ph.D. students and post-doctoral researchers for a three-week program to work on multi-disciplinary teams to generate novel, creative solutions to pressing national security problems and build the skills needed for successful research program development at national laboratories and in academia. This program will focus on introducing Advanced Studies Scholars to the process of writing winning proposals and securing research funding.

Call for Applications: CSRE Grant Program

The Center for Security Research and Education (CSRE) offers grants to full-time Penn State faculty members to support interdisciplinary research, curricular development, or educational activities addressing the broad range of security challenges confronting society. Applicants may seek funding to address the threats currently facing individuals, families, physical and electronic infrastructure, food and water supplies, public health, the natural environment, as well as the implications of society’s responses to these threats on economic well-being, civil liberties, and culture.

CSRE offers three types of grants:

Level 1 Multipurpose Grants, which may be awarded by the CSRE director in amounts not to exceed $1,000. Level 1 grants are designed primarily to support interdisciplinary security-related public programs and may be submitted on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Level 2 Education Grants, which may be awarded by a selection committee in amounts not to exceed $2,500. Level 2 grants are designed to support interdisciplinary security-related curricular or educational program development and are awarded twice annually.

Level 3 Research Grants, which may be awarded by a selection committee in amounts not to exceed $15,000. Level 3 grants are designed to assist applicants in obtaining external funding and awarded twice annually.

Level 2 and 3 grant applications must be received by February 15.

Call for Applications: CSRE Faculty Fellows Program

Penn State faculty are invited to apply for the Center for Security Research and Education (CSRE) Faculty Fellows Program. The deadline for academic year 2019–2020 applications is February 1.

The CSRE Faculty Fellows Program is open to any full-time Penn State faculty member wishing to address topics involving threats to homeland, national, and global peace and security; the underlying causes of these threats; strategies and techniques for prevention and consequence management; and the effects of security measures on individual liberties, human rights, economic well-being, and culture.
