There are various forms of media. Media is a way of delivering information to people. The use of media includes watching TVs, reading newspapers, listening to the radio and reading books. Using media become a habit for many people in the world. People have gotten used to the use of media to the extent that day forget the social and cultural effects that the media has. People have overlooked the consequences of using the media. Today, people have learned about the contributions of media in the enhancement of new skills, and it increasing people’s understanding of the world. According to the media grammar literacy, each medium has their own language. Each medium has its own grammar. The production variables of these forms of media affect the elements of their content. For example, variables in print media production include the format, page size, typeface design, color, size, spacing, punctuation, graphics and negative space among others. Media shares some variables; however, some of the variables are unique to each medium. These variables are what make a medium what it is.
People take media based on the different characteristics associated with each media. For media to be considered worthy; it must have its language and a unique way of its presentation. According to Joshua Meyrowitz (1998), in his work on the media grammar literacy, he says that Basic media literacy make people being able to access to and analyze it (Meyrowitz 97). For one to have basic media literacy, he or she has to access and be able to analyze messages in different types of media. People should be able to presentation of information by each media form.
All media has its language. It is necessary for each media to have the grammar literacy. Thus, all media have unique characteristics, which will act as the distinguishing factor in the media. All media possess it, it based on the individual, their education, their social communications, and their social status. Meyrowitz(1998) says that people have the different opinion on competencies or literacies, which might because they have different social level or education (Meyrowitz 96). The way media is presenting and the language it uses impact people’s view of life.
I have an example about the print media. This form of media has got its unique variables. For instance, the color, the size, the punctuation and the kind of language it uses. The variables in print media are what make this media unique. This type of media also uses images, photographs, and pictures. These variables are also common in TV. It contains a written text, which should be of a certain size, a distinct language depending to illustrate the message on the subject of the information and pictures.
In the form of media above, different variables are observable. These are the format of the page, the font size and color, the use of images and the page design. All these are different variables present in print media.
Within a country, the citizen must be able to read and understand media and be able to analyze it using pictures. The font size and the spacing also help people to get the information clearly and without straining. The law through the Media Act, which makes sure media meets the requirements, governs the information on this type of media. It also considers the effects it will have on the cultural and social life of people.
