FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS earn points by attending our programs and making connections with each other, using our Connection Cards (available in the library). At the end of the spring semester, the first-year student with the most points will be awarded the Penn State York Women’s Philanthropic Network’s ConnectED $2,018 prize to be used toward tuition for his or her sophomore year at Penn State York.

Step forward! This year, in support of Enhancing Health – one of the five thematic priorities of Penn State University’s Strategic Plan, we have rotating signs around campus, telling you how many steps it is from that point to the library! First-year students earn 10 points every day just by taking a picture by one of our signs and showing it to one of the library staff the same day.

Join history and political science instructor Jon Price for a discussion of the upcoming 2018 midterm elections, with a special focus on Pennsylvania.  Jon will offer his predictions on key races nationwide, so on Election Day we’ll find out if the Price is right!


PENN STATE LAUREATE EVENTS
Dr. John Champagne, professor at Penn State Erie, has been named Penn State Laureate for this year. He’ll tour the state asking questions about — and offering a historical perspective on — the role of the artist in times of political turmoil.

In preparation for Dr. Champagne’s lecture in November, we will be watching the film The Garden of the Finzi-Continis. Dr. Champagne will reference this film in his talk and we’re hoping that seeing the film in advance will make the presentation a richer experience! If you’re unable to join us, you may check the film out in the library, watch it, and join us for the film discussion in the library on November 1.

Everyone is welcome to join us for Dr. John Champagne’s talk “Art and Politics: The Case of Corrado Cagli.” Dr. Champagne uses the contradictory relationship between Italian artist Corrado Cagli and the fascist government that supported him as a starting point for engaging his audience in a discussion of the responsibility of the artist in times of political unrest.

We’ll talk about picture books from our childhood (past), enjoying picture books as an adult (present), and writing picture books (future). Come share your story – milk and cookies will be served!
