Dual-title Ph.D. Training at Penn State
The dual-title program integrates two fields of study into a single research/thesis query. Dual-title programs offer considerable value-added scholarship for students, along with enhanced methodological/analytical skills, expanded foundational knowledge, and broader employment/career opportunities.
Some of the advantages of a dual-title program are:
- The student is simultaneously enrolled in a major and dual-title program with each having equal stature and credit
- Both fields of study are represented on the doctoral committee and are included in the candidacy, comprehensive and final examinations.
- Completion of the program provides a unique, visible credential, for example, the degree is awarded in both fields of study.
Currently, 16 dual-title program exist at Penn State. The CTS Dual-title Program can be adopted by any number of major programs and it is particularly suited to fields that interface with a broad number of other disciplines where human health is a consideration.
