Mortal Kombat comes as somewhat of a remake of the original game Mortal Kombat from the 80s.

Plot – 8/10

Mortal Kombat is esentially a remake of the first game in the series. The idea of the game is that many fighters from around the world were gathered to fight in a life or death tournament, the Mortal Kombat. The plot involves traveling back in time to before the first game took place.  This alternate-timeline-style plot brings new interesting content into the story while still staying true to the main idea of the series.

Presentation – 9/10

Presentation is one that makes this game standout from the rest. Being the first game in the new generation of consoles, Mortal Kombat brings interesting new styles and visually impressive effects that make the gaming experience more enjoyable. The main thing Mortal Kombat is known for is gore and this game certainty has a lot of it. Each stage is completely dynamic in that new environmental obstacles are constantly appearing to make the combat interesting. Even the fighters them selves are constantly changing as the battle continues. The characters will start in their normal costumes until the end of the fight where wounds and blood are visible where the characters were hit.

Appeal 8/10

Appeal is very different when it comes to fighting games. In most cases, these games do not have an immerse world or engaging plot to keep players interesting. For this reason, the appeal in these games depends only on presentation and gameplay. Luckily, Mortal Kombat excels in both of these aspects.

Gameplay 9/10

This is were Mortal Kombat succeeds the most. In every fighting game, controls and fluidity make or break the game. Mortal Kombat is definitely the first case. The controls are complex yet intuitive. They are complex enough that you can string together large combos but simple enough that people can pick up the game for the first time and play.

Overall 8/10

Mortal Kombat for the Xbox 360 does the series justice by bringing a new worthwhile addition to the series.

One thought on “Mortal Kombat Review

  1. Mortal Kombat is definitely a classic fighting game, and I agree especially with your views on the gameplay. I think it would be cool if one week you decided to review a poor video game/one that you really disliked just to get a better sense as a reader for what aspects you find appealing vs. unappealing.
