Current Position(s): NICHD Postdoctoral Fellow, Population Studies Center, University of Michigan; (Fall 2015) Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Southern California

Brief Bio: Dr. Smith-Greenaway’s research broadly examines how social institutions influence individuals’ wellbeing across the life-course. In her research on education, she has used both primary and secondary data to demonstrate that literacy powerfully influences both adults’ own health and that of their children. In her research on marriage, she explores how family processes intersect with the broader cultural context to influence adults’ and children’s wellbeing.

Penn State’s Demography Program: I found the Demography Program at Penn State to be an exceptionally supportive training environment. The program’s top-notch methodological training, committed mentors, and generous research support fostered my development as a researcher. The program certainly pushed me to defend my ideas with rigor, but the collegial environment made it a fun experience that I’ll remember fondly.
