What is ‘Congress’? What is its relationship to the CWSA/ACEF annual conference?

Like many other national scholarly associations, the Canadian Women’s Studies Association/l’association canadienne des tudes sur les femmes holds its annual conference in conjunction with the CFHSS (Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences) <http://www.fedcan.ca/>  Congress. ‘Congress,’ as it is now known (although several years ago it was called ‘the Learneds’ – and you can still hear many people refer to it as such), is the annual mega-meeting organized by the CFHSS; during this approximately 8-day period at the end of May and early June, many of the national scholarly associations in Canada gathered under this large academic organization come together to hold their annual meetings and conferences at the same time. Every year, Congress is held at a different university across Canada, and usually brings together about 5500 academics and researchers, representing the variety of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.
