Demonstrating Success through Assessment: Don’t Leave Outcomes to Chance

What:

The Science and Technology Section Assessment Committee is sponsoring a one hour  session consisting of three invited 15 minutes presentations along with 15 minutes for questions and discussion at the 2014 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV (June 26July 1, 2014). The session is tentatively scheduled for Saturday June 28th 4:30 to 5:30 PM.

 

Theme:

Assessment is an important component of any discussion on planning or implementing new services as well as evaluating existing ones. Yet it is often difficult to know how to proceed with assessment, what tools to use, and how to implement the results of assessment . This session will present three practical examples of assessing new and/or existing Science and Technology library services with the emphasis placed on:

 

1.      how assessment was incorporated into planning processes

2.      what tools were used

3.      what the practical outcomes of that assessment were

 

STS Members and nonmembers of STS are invited and welcomed to submit proposals.

Preference will be given to proposals that address the theme, make for a balanced, practical, and relevant session, with emphasis placed on direct applicability to Science and Technology Librarianship. The presenters selected will be required to present in person at the session and to register for the conference. All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation, etc., are the responsibility of the presenters.

 

Please submit a proposal by Friday, March 7th, 2014. Late submissions will not be considered. Please list your name(s), title(s), institutional affiliation(s), and contact information (telephone number, mailing address, and email address). Include: 1) The title of your presentation, and 2) A 150-250 word abstract describing your proposed presentation. Notification of acceptance will be made by Friday, March 28, 2014.
