The Advances in Systems Analysis, Software Engineering, and High Performance Computing (ASASEHPC) Book Series brings together research in the areas of distributed computing, systems and software engineering, high performance computing, and service science. This collection of publications is useful for academics, researchers, and practitioners seeking the latest practices and knowledge in this field.

Introduction

Real-time systems are defined as those systems in which correctness of the systems depends not only on logical results of computation but also on the time at which results are produced. The objective of real-time systems is to guarantee the deadline of tasks in the system and for achieving this goal vast research on real-time scheduling has been conducted.

Scheduling in real-time systems is very important for achieving the deadline. Manly there are two kinds of scheduling – Hard and Soft. You cannot miss a deadline in hard real-time systems where as in soft real-time systems; it might be fine if some deadlines are missed as it is not going to create any catastrophe.

In this book – both hard and soft scheduling research work can be covered. Use of Artificial Intelligence was not recommendable earlier but now, many AI techniques can also be applied for the same.

Objective of the Book

This comprehensive and timely publication aims to be an essential reference source, building on the available literature in the field of scheduling of real-time systems while providing for further research opportunities in this dynamic field. It is hoped that this text will provide the resources necessary for researchers, academicians and advanced-level students.

Target Audience

Researchers, academicians, advanced-level students and technology developers will find this text useful in furthering their research exposure to pertinent topics in the area of real-time systems in furthering their own research efforts in the same field.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

Scheduling of soft real-time systems

Scheduling of hard real-time systems

Energy aware real-time methods

Timing analysis

Hardware-software co-design

Embedded platforms

Resource management

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before February 28, 2014, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by March 15, 2014 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by June 20, 2014. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

All proposals should be submitted through the link at the bottom of this page.
