18th Distance Library Services Conference

The deadline for submitting Paper Presentation proposals for the 18th Distance Library Services Conference is this Sunday, April 23!

The conference will be held April 11-13, 2018, in downtown San Antonio, TX, at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio, right off of the famed Riverwalk.

What is a Paper Presentation? The Paper Presentation format requires that you write a paper and then present at the conference. Your paper will be published in both the conference proceedings and later in special issues of the Journal of Library & Information Services in Distance Learning. Your presentation is an opportunity to share issues, findings or conclusions related to your paper.

The average attendance for the past three conferences was 273, so in addition to your paper being published in the Journal of Library & Information Services in Distance Learning, you will benefit by presenting at a smaller, focused conference with ample networking opportunities.

Proposals should fall into one of three general tracks:

Teaching & Learning (e.g. technologies, strategies, instructional design, assessment, best practices, successes/failures)

Marketing & Outreach (e.g. advocacy, assessment, collaboration, strategies)

User Experience (e.g. assessment, best practices, initiatives, student success)

If you want to share your research, projects, or ideas with others providing library services online or at a distance, you won’t find a better place to do it! Submit your Paper Presentation proposal soon!

To submit a proposal, please visit http://libguides.cmich.edu/dls2018/call_for_proposals

The conference covers a wide spectrum of topics that relate to information society, which includes technical and non-technical research areas.

The mission of i-Society 2016 conference is to provide opportunities for collaboration of professionals and researchers to share existing and generate new knowledge in the field of information society. The conference encapsulates the concept of interdisciplinary science that studies the societal and technological dimensions of knowledge evolution in digital society. The i-Society bridges the gap between academia and industry with regards to research collaboration and awareness of current development in secure information management in the digital society. The i-Society 2016 themes are Cyber Security and Internet of Things (IoT).

You are allowed a total of 6 pages for your paper (including all figures, tables, and references). If you are planning to submit a Full Paper, you do not need to submit an Extended Abstract.

Extended Abstract (Work in Progress)

The extended abstract should not exceed 2 pages (including introduction, body of knowledge and conclusion, supported by not more than 10 references). Please submit your extended abstract in PDF format at extendedabstract@i-society.eu.

Panel Discussion

Proposals from those who would like to facilitate a panel discussion are welcomed. The proposals may address any of the topics falling within the scope of the conference themes. Panel Discussions provide an opportunity for public discussion amongst a selected group of panelists. Central to the success of a panel discussion is the choice of a good topic as the focus for discussion and panellists who bring differing perspectives and are confident in making clear arguments in a live situation. Panels should comprise of three to five scholars who present their arguments; a discussant offers critical comment on the arguments made and the discussion is opened up to the participating audience. The proposal must include:

  • Title

  • Panel Chair(s) (if necessary)

  • Speaker(s) Name, Affiliation and Email

  • Scope

  • Objective and motivation

The i-Society 2016 will set aside space for those who wish to pursue discussion of a particular topic or issue. Interested individuals should submit a proposal not more than 400 words, on or before July 31, 2016. In addition, the proposal should indicate the duration of the panel discussion (preferred duration is 90 minutes). All accepted Panel Discussion proposal will be published in the Conference Proceedings. If you are interested in organising Panel Discussion for the i-Society 2016, please email your proposal to the pandis@i-society.eu. Submissions should be in MS Word format.

Virtual Presentation (Video Conferencing)

We understand that some presenters will not be able to make the trip to London to present their research paper, case study, work in progress and report, mainly due to financial and/or political restrictions on travel. The i-Society 2016 has therefore instituted a virtual presentation system to allow the authors of accepted papers the same publication opportunities as regular presenters. Content features analysis and coding, media access control, multimedia flow and error control, cross-layer optimization, Quality of Experience (QoE), media cloud as well as mobility management and security protocols are research challenges that need to be carefully examined when designing new mobile media architectures. We also need to put a great effort in designing applications that take into account the way the user perceives the overall quality of the provided service.

Within this scope, MobiMedia is intended to provide a unique international forum for researchers from industry and academia, working on multimedia coding, mobile communications and networking fields, to study new technologies, applications and standards. Original unpublished contributions are solicited that can improve the knowledge and practice in the integrated design of efficient technologies and the relevant provision of advanced mobile multimedia applications.
