Matt studies the literature of the English Renaissance with emphasis on the works of Edmund Spenser, William Shakespeare, and John Milton. Much of his work focuses on issues related to genre (particularly epic and chivalric romance) and authorship, especially forms of counter-authorship and anti-authorship.

Lauren studies early modern literature with an emphasis on poetry and poetics and the pastoral mode. She is fascinated by Milton, Shakespeare’s contemporaries, Aemilia Lanyer, and Katherine Philips. More recently, she has become interested in book history and bibliography, with a focus on paratextual materials.

Jon is a 4th year PhD student in Comparative Literature with a Doctoral Minor in English. He is a Medievalist working on the Global North Atlantic. His research focuses on the literary production from England, Iberia, and Scandinavia during the Middle Ages. Jon studies how medieval communities perceived the past, both historical and legendary, as an archive of narrative material that could be repurposed to address the concerns of their present. Thus, his research mainly focuses on medieval vernacular retellings of ancient narratives. Jon’s research and teaching interests include Memory, Rhetorical Learning, the Epic Tradition, Classical Literature, Narrative, Myth, and Trauma.
Audrey Gradzewicz studies gendered trauma in medieval and early modern texts.

Audrey Saxton is a first-year PhD student whose research focuses on fourteenth- and fifteenth-century Middle English literature. She is especially interested in how authors represent gender, power, and the environment.
