On Wednesday September 26th, Eco Action hosted Lydia Vandenbergh of the Sustainability Institute at our weekly meeting. To conclude our theme for September, WASTEmber, Lydia met with members at the fully self-sustaining MorningStar Solar Home to discuss waste mitigation strategies and how Penn State and students can be more conscious consumers.

Three key areas of waste generation were stressed by Ms Vandenbergh at the meeting, including water intensity in clothing manufacturing, single use plasticware and packaging concerns, as well as food waste issues. Students were able to ask questions and learn more about the specific measures Penn State is taking to address these global areas of interest. Topics discussed at this meeting generated inspiration for the homecoming parade float for the following month.
