History

1970’s: Eco Action was founded in 1972. In the 70’s, we participated in a Student Environmental Conference, started a newspaper recycling program on campus, pushed a ban on non-recyclable bottles, supported legislation to protect Alaska’s wilderness and Minnesota’s boundary waters, and urged Penn State to put more bike paths in place. Early 1980’s: Eco Action built up the recycling program to include glass, aluminum, tin, and paper. We held many events including Earth Day celebrations and a Bill Oliver concert. We attended a water conservation conference in Washington DC, worked to save gardens for construction on campus, and marched to raise money for nuclear freeze campaigns. Read More.
