Bryan Adams Cancels Show in Mississippi to Protest New Same-Sex Law

Mississippi has implemented a new law allowing people with religious objections to deny services to same-sex couples. To protest this law, Bryan Adams has canceled one of his shows that was scheduled to take place in Mississippi. This is the second major concert that has been canceled in the south due to discrimination laws. Bruce Springsteen also canceled a show earlier in the year due to discriminatory laws towards transgenders in North Carolina. Adams calls this new legislature extremely discriminatory. “I cannot in good conscience perform in a state where certain people are being denied their civil rights due to their sexual orientation,” said Adams. Not just singers are objecting these new laws, but executive from my U.S. corporations have urged North Carolina and Mississippi officials to repeal these discriminating laws.

There will be a lot of publicity about these new laws for many reasons. LGBTQ has been a constant discussion in our media especially because the recent pass of the right for gay couples to legally wed. These new laws are discriminating and taking away the rights of this community who finally won the rights that the rest of society already has. There will also be a lot of press given the fact that two major performers have actively taken a stand against the laws and have boycotted any performances they have in either of these states.

I think these singers canceling shows will be an effective form of protesting the laws. These musicians are famous for their talents and probably have many fans in these states who paid money to see them. By them not performing however, they will make at least their fan-base realize that what this legislation is doing is wrong in the eyes of many other people.
