Who Doesn’t Like to Shop?!

“To give everyone full equality we must give everyone full opportunity” -Martyn Sibley

Martyn Sibley is a a disabled man in a wheelchair with a mission. To be quite honest I agree with his mission. In his article that he wrote in January, “Having A Wheelchair Shouldn’t Stop Me Shopping”, Sibley goes onto speak about how difficult it is for those in wheelchairs, and disabled people altogether to go shopping. Once they enter a store, if there is access that will account for their wheelchair that is, there is a constant annoyance of having to be careful of knocking over things and moving out of peoples way in general.

He tells a story of his friend in college who was also in a wheelchair that did not realize that the exit they went out was a step and went flying off of his wheelchair… That must have been awkward for him and the people who saw because I personally know that I would feel terrible seeing something like that happen. I think its obvious what Sibley means when he says, “To give everyone full equality we must give everyone full opportunity”. No matter what the scenario, all people should have the fair and full opportunity to enjoy what they like or would like to do!
