When I came to college, I loved hearing about my new friend’s high schools back home. I never before realized how different other’s high school experiences were. I attended a public school and believe that I received an excellent education. However, the more I talked to my new friends, the more I realized that this was not the case at all public schools. I also began to learn about private high schools and the different experiences those students have. This really sparked my interest in education. Also, throughout high school I followed various education policies and changes such as the implementation of the keystone exams. During my senior year, the teachers at my school were due for new contracts, and I found my education and experience greatly effected by this. Today I am still interested in education in Pennsylvania, especially regarding public education.
The site that I found and would like to use for this project is the official blog of the US Department of Education. There are many different sections within the blog to look at. There are sections regarding college, K-12 reform, parents, teachers, etc. I think it will be interesting to look at the different blogs and read other’s opinions on these topics. I also liked that the site encourages positive comments and has a policy on comments. I am excited to explore this site and read what others have posted.
