Editorial Statement by Fiction Editor Austin Shay

The fiction section was definitely a memorable section this year. The submissions were oddly close in nature, both dealing with supernatural topics. Throughout both stories we see the main characters become closely involved with their mental capacity or their supernatural beliefs. I thoroughly enjoyed reading through these two pieces of fiction, and believe that the authors have done their work justice. The fiction category was highly competitive this year, and the two authors who had their pieces published well deserve this publication. Writing fiction is hard, and anyone who can effectively develop a plot and follow it with dynamic character development is and exceptional author. Most novels and short stories that we see on the market these days are romance or $2 westerns, but the entire fiction section this year captures the essence of what fiction should be.
