Friday Night Lice will go on hiatus after this week, as we have a lot of travel (Scientific meeting, combined with a collecting expedition. Yay!), collection room rearrangement, and teaching responsibilities in the near future. It’s been quite fun to show off our specimens, and we only got through about 5% of the Anoplura species in our collection. How many surprises left to be discovered? If all goes according to plan we should be back on track this fall, with more lice and other species to celebrate.
Given the morphology of this week’s louse can you guess what mammalian host it lives on? Look at those stout setae on the abdomen, whose segments appear to have tough-looking paratergites. Post your guesses in the comments below, and we’ll post the answer on Monday!
