We have been working diligently on adjusting the Odonata imaging SOP, and I have begun putting it to good use by imaging the Coenagrionidae family. While these are small specimens, there are many of them and they are often crowded in their cellophane envelopes.
The finalized template makes use of contrast and quadrants for digitization. This helps maintain the image integrity for digitization, even though our lighting is less than perfect.
While I cannot provide the updated SOP right now, I can say that our focus is on imaging the odonates and then slipping the identifier labels behind the cards into the cellophane envelopes. Moving individual specimens into updated storage will be a future project. With the sheer number of specimens that need to be imaged, priority is given to examining the collection and then updating the method of storage. However, by moving some specimens out of overly crowded boxes as necessary, we are reducing the strain on the individual specimens in the mean time.
