Last week we featured these two lice, which I am pleased to tell you are Cummingsia (Acanthomenopodon) peramydis (Ferris 1922) (Anoplura: Menoponidae). This species is found on South American marsupials, such as the Northern red-sided opossum on which these were found. Cummingsia peramydis is distinguished by two long setae on the head, but many short setae on the rest of the body (Timm & Price 1985).
For all the Harry Potter enthusiasts out there, this week’s louse is for you, on Harry Potter’s birthday. It was collected on a snowy owl, Bubo scandiacus or Nyctea scandiaca (Linnaeus 1758) (Strigiformes: Strigidae) in Fairbanks, Alaska on November 8, 1973.
Stay tuned for the reveal of this louse next week!
