CAD Project

HMMWV M1165A1 on SolidWorks

I chose to do a version of the HMMWV because I am fascinated by the technology that is simple but yet modern. The HMMWV uses the best technology available and also keeps components as simple as possible to increase the reliability and repair speeds.

The most difficult part of this project was by far the wheels and suspension. I tried to simplify the components as much as possible but still the process was very complicated and tedious. I had several individual parts and therefore dozens of mates so that made the project very time consuming.

My family has always worked for General Motors and growing up I learned to love cars of all shapes and sizes. I hope to someday work in designing military vehicles or civilian vehicles and the HMMWV was a perfect vehicle for me to make on SolidWorks as a freshmen.

A huge amount of time goes into designing complicated things, especially if you are not as skilled with the program. With more experience you start to learn shortcuts and more efficient ways to make shapes.

My model of the HMMWV was based off of pictures from the website hmmwvinscale.com. This was a extremely helpful sources because it had many pictures of the HMMWV.
