Wisdom and the Successful Curriculum/Course Review

Developing online course materials affords us the opportunity to re-examine fundamental questions about what we teach and how.  Involved in many instances of re-design, I have come to the realization that it is difficult to collaboratively unpack, pick apart and discuss the questions asked as part of a curriculum/course review by a group of instructors and faculty unless these folks have been teaching and working together in these materials or related courses for a significant period of time.  It seems important that a critical mass of experience needs to be attained before a knowledgeable, honest and open curriculum/course review takes place. A significant part of this change is a grounded understanding in what is involved in teaching and learning online, and that while it is different than resident instruction, it is still an effective means for achieving significant educational goals. It is exciting to see our online program’s journey get to the point that allows for this.  For me, this is a new level of collaborative review and it is exciting to be a part of this work.
