Federal

We keep in close contact with Members of Congress, congressional committees, federal agencies, and higher education associations in Washington, DC, to maintain strong relationships that help the University as much as the University helps the country. An example: Penn State’s research expenditures have totaled more than $800 million each year for the past several years. The total typically includes more than $500 million in funding from a variety of federal agencies and departments, reflecting the balance and breadth that have long characterized Penn State’s research enterprise. Given the wide range of federal interests for the University, the Office of Government and Community Relations maintains federal relations staff at University Park, Hershey and in an office a short walk away from the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, DC.

Federal Lobbying Disclosure Act

Congress first passed the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995, and in 2007, the Act was updated and the lobbying and gift rules have become more stringent. The University, as a registered lobbying entity, files a quarterly lobbying report.
