In the movie ” Legally Blonde,” law student Elle Woods is asked by her professor if she’s applying for his internship and if she has a resume. On the spot, she whips it out of her tote bag. Of course, it’s pink and scented (which we don’t recommend!). But, the main point is that she had it– updated and with her, ready to hand out at a moment’s notice.
IS YOUR RESUME UPDATED, CURRENT AND READY TO BE HANDED OUT?
If not, why not? Career Services can help you prepare and fine tune your resume with our last resume workshops of the fall semester on either Nov. 30 at 5 pm or Dec. 3 at 12:30 pm, both in Library room 302.
Can’t make either workshop? Check our website (www.hbg.psu.edu/careers) under the link for Employment Documents, where we have instructions, format samples and examples of student resumes, undergraduate and graduate, by major. These examples should give you plenty of ideas for your own resume.
Remember, there is no one way to write a resume that is right for every person. Your resume must be tailored to showcase your own education, skills and experience. And it should reflect how you can fill the needs of the hiring manager that you are sending it to.
After you’ve worked on your resume, our office will review it (or a cover letter), checking for style and substance as well as grammar and punctuation. You can bring it in to our office, or email it to ask4careeradvice@psu.edu.
Oh, and unscented white paper is best!
