Seven students volunteered as Career Peers with the Career Services Office this year, serving as our ambassadors to both students and employers. They are Hakeem Muhammed, Rayshawn Farrell, Duc Dang, Desiree Vandine, Rosemary Yee, RuYue Mao, and Brianna Alexander. The Career Services Office hosted a light breakfast meeting on April 30 to thank them for their participation.
These students helped us at a variety of events including our career fairs, information tables, and employer information sessions, as well as planning and delivering the fun “Careers in Jeopardy” event in March. Along the way they learned more about the resources available through Career Services and shared their information and perspective with their fellow students.
We are now recruiting additional students to be Career Peers for 2014-2015. If you would like to be part of this group, read on-
Students serving as Career Peers assist the Career Services office in reaching out to their fellow students to promote our events and services, contribute to publicity and marketing efforts, help out at career events, and work with our staff to better serve students.
In return for a commitment to this program, the Career Peers will benefit with extra assistance in their own career development while preparing their documents and developing skills for their internship or job search. Career Peers will have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the resources of the Career Services Office, to interact in a professional manner with employers who visit campus, and to gain experience and develop a professional relationship useful for references and resume enhancement.
Requirements: Undergraduate or graduate students of any major; excellent written and oral communications skills, outgoing personality and desire to assist other students, ability to commit 5-10 hours per month on a flexible schedule. Prior contact with or use of the Career Services office is not required—we will train you to assist us!
If you would like to apply to be a Career Peer for the 2014-2015 academic year, please contact Charlotte Spector, cspector@psu.edu, with your resume and a letter of interest explaining why you would like to participate in this program and what you would bring to the position.
