Your resume is your personal marketing tool, so make it stand out in the employer’s eyes.
Marketing folks might call this branding. How do you want to sell or present yourself to your customer (the recruiter/ interviewer)?
Be sure your resume is an accurate reflection of your knowledge skills and abilities. It should have a focus that supports your objective and shows that you are the best candidate for the employer’s position. You want to show that you can add value, even as an intern.
Try to match, as best you can, what the employer is looking for. You resume may get just a quick glance at first, so look at your resume and ask:
- Can a hiring manager see my main credentials easily?
- Does critical information jump off the page?
- Do I effectively sell myself as a potential employee?
Those questions are ones that federal employers recommend you ask yourself when writing and reviewing your resume and they apply equally to employers in all sectors.
