IMSH 2017

The Penn State Hershey Clinical Simulation Center was well represented at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare held in Orlando, Jan. 28 through Feb. 1. Sixteen Penn State Hershey faculty and staff attended this event, making this our largest turnout. Penn State presented 2 pre-conference workshops, 6 conference workshops and presentations, and one poster presented at Professor Rounds. Here is a summary of our presentations and workshops.

Dr. Sinz Named Fellow of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare

Elizabeth H. Sinz, MD MEd FCCM FSSH, director of the Clinical Simulation Center and Associate Dean for Simulation, was named as an inaugural inductee to the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Academy, earning the distinction of Fellow of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (FSSH). Dr. Sinz was one of 34 people receiving this honor, joining a group that represents worldwide leaders in simulation-based healthcare education. Dr. Sinz was a founding board member of the society and served as its second president.

David Rodgers Named to Editorial Board of Simulation in Healthcare

Center manager David Rodgers, EdD, EMT-P, NRP, FAHA, was named to the Editorial Board of Simulation in Healthcare, the premier journal in patient simulation and the official journal of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

Accreditations

During the past 12 months, the Center was reaccredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, The American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. The Society for Simulation in Healthcare was the Center’s first accreditation with all four specialty areas: Assessment, Teaching, Research, and Systems Integration. The American College of Surgeons recognized the Center’s Instructor Course as a national best practice.

Philadelphia Area Simulation Consortium

The next meeting of the Philadelphia Area Simulation Consortium will be held on June 15 at Drexel University Center City Campus. The session agenda and a request for program abstract will be announced soon. Typically this program starts at 9 AM and ends by 4 PM to allow same day travel. This meeting will be hosted by the Simulation Programs at Drexel University: Kathy Ryan, MD; Sharon Griswold-Theodorson, , MD, MPH, FAAEM; and Rocky Rockstraw, PhD, RN. For more information, contact – ljr28@drexel.edu.
