Developed by a multidisciplinary staff in 2015 at Penn State Lehigh Valley, the IESE program supports student research in many fields: physics, engineering, information science technologies (IST), business and corporate communication. Alongside local businesses, IESE challenges students to develop and promote green energy using LED lighting, the fastest growing sector in the lighting industry. This endeavor is sponsored by Dr. Ken Thigpen, Director of Academic Affairs, in support of undergraduate research. Our faculty, staff and students graciously thank Penn State and the philanthropic support of our corporate partners for making this project possible.
In 2016, IESE was awarded grant money from Penn State’s LaunchBox program, and was featured in the Lehigh Vally Business newspaper, LVB.com. IESE Director, Dr. Tai-Yin Huang, had this to say, “We set up this program to do something that’s outside the traditional student setting.” IESE students will use these funds to continue developing and researching energy solutions, particularly green energy. “We have a lot of talented students; having them learn in the classroom is very limited. By discussing with peers, with faculty, they learn a lot more,” states Dr. Huang.
