  Abstract: It is well known that nuclear weapon detonations can have large geographic area impacts. For decades we’ve been protecting key assets and infrastructure on a system basis. With increased dependency on multiple network-based systems, it is now necessary to consider WMD impacts on interdependent networks—accounting for the possibility that a non-“fatal” event in one network may generate a cascading failure across multiple networks. DTRA basic research explores this concept with end state of more cost-effective solutions leading to WMD-robust and resilience networks.Mr. Robert Kehlet is the Division Chief for the Collaboration and Transition Division at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. He serves as one of the principle managers for basic and early applied science to support high payoff, long range Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD) needs. In particular, research on the response, resilience, and recovery of interconnected networks to the extreme conditions generated by WMD is one of the research areas under Rob’s Division. Rob has broad Science and Technology research background throughout his career; exploring the impacts of WMD on personnel and military systems, leading the development of US and NATO radiation guidance to commanders, conducting demonstration projects for enhanced WMD protection of buildings, and creating tools to assist with consequence management. In his spare time Rob is out growing the next generation of leaders with the Boy Scouts of America.

  The Office of Naval Research
  Dr. J. Sukarno Mertoguno manages basic and applied sience research in cyber security and complex software for The Office of Naval Research (ONR). Before joining ONR he worked as a system & chip architect and entrepreneuer in the Silicon Valley. He has worked on embedded processors, switching fabric, network processors, and various other hardware accelerators, including TCP/IP, NFS, mobile anti-malware, etc. He received a Ph.D. In electrical engineering from SUNY-Binghamton.

  Bill Glodek
  Computer Scientist, ARL Computational & Information Sciences Directorate (CISD), Network Sciences Division, Network Security Branch
  Bill Glodek is a computer scientist at the US Army Research Laboratory. Bill earned a MS in Computer Science from Florida State University as a DoD/NSA Information Assurance Scholarship Program student. He currently supports ARL’s computer network defense operations and basic research programs. His research focus includes network forensics, malware analysis and advanced cyber threat detection. Bill has also been a speaker at the US Air Force’s Advanced Course in Engineering Cyber Security Boot Camp and the Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3) DoD Cyber Crime Conference.
