About Me

Jennifer GilleyI am currently serving as the Interim Director of the Penn State Commonwealth Campus Libraries, as well as the Head Librarian at Penn State New Kensington, where I have worked since 1998. I earned tenure in 2007 and was promoted to the rank of Full Librarian in 2018. I love my job because I get to spend my time working closely with students and faculty, teaching research skills as a crucial part of disciplinary learning and information literacy skills as a foundation for lifelong learning. In my current role as Director of the Campus Libraries, I am very excited to have the opportunity to advocate for the campus libraries and their constituencies, as well as serve as a promotion and tenure department head.

My scholarly research passion is in the emerging field of feminist print culture studies. I study archival materials such as personal papers to uncover the publication histories of books that were important to the feminist movement so that I can see how alternative voices gain access to the capital-intensive world of book publishing. I analyze who in our society has access to the means of publication and distribution of ideas, and who therefore influences the greater societal conversation.

In addition to teaching and research, I serve as the Honors Program Coordinator at Penn State New Kensington, and coordinate the First Year Summer Reading Program. I am also very involved in the Association of College and Research Libraries Women and Gender Studies Section. In 2017, I was honored to receive the WGSS Career Achievement Award in Women and Gender Studies Librarianship.
