The Fight Heard ‘Round The World

The UFC is the Ultimate Fighting Championship. It is a United States based company consisting of mixed martial arts fights. The events of the UFC are worldwide.  The UFC started in 1993 and has had some of the top ranked fighters in the world fight on their stages. This company has male fights and female fights. Of course, being stereotypical, the male fights are almost always more widely known, have bigger audiences, and are the most talked about. Some female fights prove this wrong. One female fight fought recently in the UFC was Rousey vs. Correia.  Rousey is one of the biggest female fighters in the UFC. Her Brazilian opponent got knocked out by her in the matter of seconds. This was expected. Mousey usually knocks out her rivals in less than a minute. The fight was very hyped up, especially because it was a female fight. The ethos portrayed through this fight is something that young girls look up to. It’s the credibility that if Rousey can do it, so can any girl that puts their mind to it. For girls, fighting isn’t always the sport they jump into; it’s usually ballet or gymnastics. To be a UFC female fighter takes a lot of proving people wrong. Rousey shows fans that she worked hard to get that win. She also shows fans that being a female fighter in the UFC isn’t easy but she does what most can’t do or what males think females shouldn’t be doing. Rousey proves to be a role model for girls out there who are interested in UFC fighting.

  1. I also loved this topic choice. You made it clear that you understood the rhetorical situation. After reading this article I did some of my own research of the fight and it really was just as amazing as the way you presented it! Good job.

  2. I agree with Jenna, great article choice! Also great mention of rhetorical appeals. That fight was epic.
