Short Bio

Dr. Jungwoo Ryoo aspires to be a compassionate servant leader and serves as the Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer (CAO) at the Pennsylvania State University-DuBois. Before his current position, Dr. Ryoo was the head of the Division of Business, Engineering, and Information Sciences and Technology (BEIST) at Penn State Altoona from 2015 to 2022. Dr. Ryoo is also a graduate/affiliate faculty member of the College of IST at Penn State-University Park. He was a technical editor for the institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) Communications Magazine and worked with IEEE and Software Engineering Institute (SEI) as a consultant. His research interests include information security and assurance, software engineering, computer networking, and data science. In addition to his core academic research, he conducts research in innovative learning environments (ILEs) to promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) higher education. Many of Dr. Ryoo’s research projects have been funded by state and federal government agencies. He received more than 1.5 million dollars in total external funding. He has substantial industry experience architecting and implementing secure, high-performance software solutions for large-scale network management systems. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Kansa City in 1996 and 1998, respectively, and Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Kansas in 2005.
