Thursday, October 27th was the day Klio members were waiting for. This was the day we had been planning for all semester: the Art Jam we sponsored at Webster’s Cafe downtown. The purpose of the Art Jam was to publicize Klio. The more publicity we could bring to our publication, the more success we would have for reaching audiences of all ranges.  When researching places to hold our Art Jam, we found that Webster’s Cafe was the perfect place for us. The cozy, artistic space was the perfect place for Klio to establish a literary presence.

Webster’s Bookstore Cafe, is located downtown State College, and provides visitors with an array of coffees, teas, and food items to choose from, all while catching up on some work or finding a good book. Klio thought this was the idea place to hold the Art Jam. The staff was friendly and the eagerness of the crowd really helped pull the event together.

The day of our Art Jam, my marketing team meandered through endless hallways of the buildings on campus, hanging up flyers and added bookmarks in front of many students’ studious faces to promote our online magazine. The experience was exciting in preparations for the Art Jam that evening.

To begin the Art Jam our Social Events Director, Veronica Leffler, enthusiastically took the mic as MC, and welcomed the crowd and kicked off our event.

Some of Klio’s staff performed for the first time that evening, acting as though they were experienced performers.

The evening unfolded flawlessly with poetry and short stories written and performed by Jon Vickers-Jones, and musical performances by musicians such as Christian Preski.

Even some of Penn State’s Kalliope members performed and WOWed the crowd with their easy flow of poetry, some original and some already-famous readings.

Kilo’s adventure to Webster’s Bookstore and Cafe was smooth sailing the entire time – flowing through gusts of music and poetry, the evening was enjoyed by all in the nestling cafe. The planning was entirely worth the outcome for our staff, especially for Veronica, the social events director, who made the idea a reality.
