Great, now that I see everyone’s hands are down, let’s reiterate this: we all love food. I don’t care if you’re on a diet, if you’re a healthy eater, or if you pig out at every meal, there is one thing we can all agree on: there is nothing better than sitting down and eating an incredible tasty meal. Nothing satisfies us more, am I right? This is why I have decided to create my passion post series with food in mind.
For years I have been lucky enough to either travel out of the country to try new foods or visit restaurants serving food as close to authentic as possible without being in the actual country. Yes, American food is an incredible mixture of hundreds of other countries’ staple dishes, but it’s all just too familiar to us, which is why you will not see any typical American dishes on this blog! Yes, I said it, no American food! On here you will find anything from France and Spain to Jamaica and Puerto Rico and many other places in between.
Be prepared to learn about new foods from cultures you thought you knew everything about and be prepared to re-familiarize yourself with foods you may have tried throughout the years. Learn not only about the food itself, but the history that surrounds it and any stories telling how it came to prominence. Immerse yourself in my posts, perhaps by envisioning yourself walking through Kingston, Jamaica while wolfing down an authentic beef patty, listening to loud tropical music playing in the background, and walking past vendors chopping open fresh coconuts. Sounds good, right? I think the best way to get the full experience of this blog is to imagine yourself in the country of the week, running around the island, buying souvenirs, chatting with the locals and work up an appetite. Then come chow down on the food of the week to satisfy all your hunger pains and let the taste of these words dance on your tongue.
Now as I’ve stated before, I have not been to all of these countries, but I have had authentic dishes from each of them. Now I am not talking about going to Taco Bell for an “authentic” enchilada, or driving to Olive Garden for the chicken alfredo. The best places in America for authentic foreign food are the places hardly anyone knows about; the small hole-in-the-wall restaurants that you can actually meet the owner or see him or her working the stove. Intimate restaurants like these know how to cater to their customer and provide them with quality dishes only people of their background know how to prepare. I have a lot of experience in these establishments and I am here to share with you my experience.
For the upcoming weeks join me on my journey across the world to taste test new foods. We will make ten stops in total, many of them in the same country so get ready for some virtual walking! After you digest each post share it with a friend! If you found new ideas in between my stops, don’t hesitate to share them with me! Do you know the best thing about all of this? These countries are just a few clicks away and ready for your consumption. Enjoy!
